4th International Conference "Polar Climate and Environmental Change in the Last Millenium"

The objective of the "4th International Conference “Polar Climate and Environmental Change in the Last Millennium”, which will be held in Toruń on August 28–30, 2026, is to provide a comprehensive overview of current scientific understanding of climate and environmental changes in the polar regions over the past millennium. We welcome contributions based on instrumental measurements as well as a wide range of proxy data, including historical records, dendrochronological, paleolimnological, glaciological, geophysical, and geomorphological evidence.

The detailed topics of the conference include, among others:

  • sources of paleoclimatic information,

  • research methods for studying climate change in historical times,

  • the climate of polar regions over the last 1000 years and its variability,

  • causes and consequences of climate change in both historical and contemporary contexts,

  • as well as scenarios of climate change in polar regions in the 21st century.

The conference is under the patronage of the Nicolaus Copernicus University, Polish Geophysical  Society, the Committee on Polar Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Polish Polar Consortium and the Museum of Polar Research
